Peter Obi speaks on subsidy

Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi speaks on subsidy removal.

He said Nigerians have been “critical” of the subsidy because Nigerians do not see the benefit and the Nigerian government has not achieved anything with the initiative.

“You have to convince people. People are against removal of subsidy because whenever it is done, they did not see its benefit. We did privatisation, we didn’t see the benefits. What we did is (that) we privatise profits, we socialise nothing,” he said.

He also expressed his concern that Nigeria is not exporting enough products for foreign exchange to be able to service the country’s debt.

Peter Obi said if elected as president in 2023, he would pay more attention to production and exporting to grow the economy and revenue of the country.

“There is no reason Nigeria should not be exporting at least N300 billion worth of products,” Peter Obi said.
