Aminu Muhammed, student of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa, has been imprisoned by the police over a tweeter post against the wife of the president of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari.
It was said that Muhammad posted a tweet saying that Aisha has gotten fat by eating the monies of the masses.
Aminu Muhammed hails from Azare in Bauchi State and is a final year student of FUD, studying environmental management.
The tweet, which was posted in Hausa in June 2022, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.”
He accompanied his tweet with a photo of the first lady which in English translates “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.
Aminu’s Lawyer states that the order for Aminu’s release has been given on Tuesday when he was arraigned before a high court in the Nation’s capital, FCT Abuja.
“He is currently being held in Suleja prison before the bail application is heard,” the lawyer said.
However, the NAN has tendered an apology to the first lady, also demanding for the release of Aminu and cautioning Nigerian students to be careful with their words especially when speaking to leaders.
The NAN also stated that the public servants should overlook criticisms as many people express themselves differently.
“We want to, on behalf of all the Nigerian students, tender our unreserved apology to the first lady, Aisha Buhari, for the action of Mohammed which might have caused her and her family pains,” NANS said in a statement on Tuesday. “However, as leaders and public office holders, we must overlook some criticisms if we want to really forge ahead and do the right thing.”
